Sound Philosophy
- Sounds are made. One learns about sound by making it.
- Sound making starts with learning to listen.
- Sounds are everywhere but how do we experience them? When the ipods are put aside and the ears are cleaned, we discover a music of environmental sounds.
- Sound can be organised in music.
- Sounds tell a story in a poetic way.
- Sounds are not made in solitude. Everybody is a ‘sound maker’.
- Sounds are not strictly bound to a certain culture. Therefore we can learn to respect the roots, backgrounds, habits, values, characters, ... of other ‘sound makers’.
- Sound is often made with much indifference, this leading to a gigantic noise society. By carefully deciding which sounds we are making, we are being noticed and we create a ecological impact on our environment.
- Sound can't exist without silence. All listening efforts lead ultimately to some contemplation and silence.
- Sound is experienced by the ears, but often also in combination with other sensory thinglings. When we explore this, we come to a refinement of our sound perceptions.
